for the longest time i’ve been using an old version of windows media player (version 9.0). now, i want to download version 10 or 11. when i download it, what does the new media player do to my old version? does it replace it, or upgrade it? also, how long long does it take to download off the microsoft site?

dsl takes about 5 min. and it upgrades it. it might have to rescan for new music but that takes 5 min as well

just upgrades it. 10 is ok, wouldn’t have 11. added more eye candy but didn’t fix anything. windows update-software is the best place to get 11

well if you have 9.0 than you probably cant change. If you want 10 than you need windows xp. If you have that then go to microsofts website and download from there. it probably wont take to long with a high spped connection. they should have download times on the site.

Actually, i would reccomend yahoo music jukebox instead of windows media player. i like it a lot better. and it works on older versions of windows.

It Updates The Files, So If You Have Any Music Save In 9.0 They Will Be Put Into The 11.0 Version Once You Upgrade So No Data Will Be Lost. Depending On Your Internet Access Speed It Normally Takes About 5 Minutes On A High Speed Cable, DSL, or Broadband, Or About 55 Minutes On A 52 KB/s (Dial-Up) Modem.

It replaces and upgrades it (assuming you have XP… 10 requires XP… 11 for XP and Vista). Essentially your version 9 WMP becomes version 10 or 11. Depending on what type of Internet connection you have, it should only take a few minutes to download and install.

I agree with avoiding 11… If you upgrade, then stick to 10 for now. WMP 11 still has some bugs to be worked out. There are some video applications that actually crash and reboot your PC due to compatibility problems with the way WMP 11 handles video. No such problems with 10.
